Notebook Purpose:
Interactive notebooks serve many purposes for middle school science. They serve as a working reference, ensuring students will always have access to information and activities done in class; this helps with studying and reviewing. Secondly, students find it easier to keep track of all assignments and due dates as their work is attached to their notebooks; this decrease the number of missing assignments drastically. Finally, they provide students with a sense of ownership of their work. Students are encouraged to 'make their work their own' and are more likely to show their best work on all assignments.
Interactive notebooks will be graded approximately every 3-4 weeks. They will be collected after a quiz or a major test. Students will be given advanced notice of when their notebooks will be collected. Students will earn two grades each time the notebook is collected. The first grade is a 20 point assignment on overall aspects of the notebook including; neatness, completeness and evidence of learning and studying. The second grade is a combination of points on assignments since the last grading session. This grade usually ranges from 50-100 points depending on the activities.
